Taiwanese IC designer MediaTek recently set up its US wireless headquarters in Woburn, Massachusetts, near Boston, according to Boston Business Journal. This facility is expected to house the wireless division staff transferred from ADI (Analog Device Inc.). In 2007 MediaTek spent US$350 million acquiring ADI's Othello radio and SoftFone baseband chipset product lines, along with some mobile phone baseband support operations and a staff of some 400. It is expected that MediaTek's Woburn facility will engage in the R&D of multi-generation analog and digital ICs targeting wireless applications.
